Why is this a survival recipe?
This recipe guarantees a crisp, flavorful apple tart that you can easily turn into an a-la-mode dessert. It’s perfectly balanced and incredibly easy to make.
If you’ve made apple pie before, you know how finicky it can be. Well this apple tart has room for *ahem* improvement, lets say. You have a bit of wiggle room with this easy recipe, so if you love spices, kick it up a notch and don’t worry about ruining your dessert with a measuring error.
Ingredients:
- 1 frozen pie crust, thawed
- 2 fuji apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 rounded tbsp of sugar
- 1 tsp of lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp of cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp of nutmeg
- 1 tbsp of butter or butter substitute
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tsp of flour, plus dusting for crust
Step one: Preheat oven to 425. Flour your surface, then roll out your pie crust with a rolling pin, lay on cookie sheet
Step two: Peel and slice your apples, squeeze in your lemon juice and add in your spices
Step three: Mix in sugar and stir together, then add in a tsp of flour and mix again
Step four: Place your apple mixture in the center of the pie crust, dot with butter
Step five: Fold the crust towards the center, brush with the beaten egg (also known as egg wash!)
Step six: Bake until golden brown and bubbly, approximately 20 minutes
